Event Description

High school students from several local schools tell their own life stories and compete for a total of $5,000 in scholarship prizes at the StoriesLive 5th High School Scholarship Story Slam. Audience members will be invited to tell a one-minute personal narrative about their high school exploits in between the featured high school storytellers. Massmouth, Inc.’s StoriesLive program teaches high school students skills to develop and tell a personal narrative through the art of storytelling. Celebrating our 5th continuous year, by May 2nd nearly 7,000 students from over 15 Massachusetts high schools will have learned the art of storytelling and competed for over $22,000 in scholarship prizes via StoriesLive.

Stories in the Streets in an outreach literacy program that focuses on families in at-risk areas and fosters community engagement in storytelling by: 1) Creating opportunities for public storytelling wherever families gather — a farmer’s market, laundromat, or food line; and, 2) Offering storytelling workshops that raise family engagement in literacy, cultural awareness and community understanding.  The program is currently active in Lawrence, Brockton and Randolph.
