After a sold out, SRO opening season massmouth‘s series continues this year with 6 slams at Kennedy’s Midtown, 42 Province Street, a short walk from Park Street T stop. Seating starts at 6:30pm. Stories begin at 7pm. If you have a five minute story on the theme bring it and drop your name in the box. Ten lucky tellers will be drawn at random to tell and be judged. Other audience members can join in on judging teams or just listen and enjoy a night of stories. Like poetry slams there will be 5 volunteer judges who rate the stories and massmouth awards the top two stories. Listeners will be engaged in story improv games between each 5 minute feature. A local actor or comedian (TBA) hosts along side one of the massmouth storytellers. $7 entry and $3 for students.

Kennedy’s offer a $50 gift certificate and a t-shirt for the winner of each monthly slam. A signed copy of one of Alan Gerson's books will be presented as well.

 

On April 26, 2011 all the finalists will gather for a BIGMOUTHOFF story slam at Rabb Hall at Copley Square Library. massmouth will award the winners of this contest a fabulous prizes.

* about Alan Gerson

After practicing law for three years, Alan Gerson, a New Orleans native, realized he was more interested in the color of the books and table at a deposition than he was the deposition. In 1992 he gave up his practice and returned to the art world full-time. He is an instructor of Foundations and Drawing at Loyola University and a full-time artist. He received an MFA from the University of New Orleans, a law degree from Tulane University, and a BA in Philosophy from Boston University. He was director of visual arts at the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center from 1980 to 1985. He has exhibited nationally and internationally. Most recently he was invited to and participated in the Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy. He is represented by LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans and by Caelum Gallery in New York. His work is in the collections of New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Besthoff collection, and numerous private collections around the world.
