Event Description

How to Tell a Kick Butt 5 minute story.
Come and enjoy a 1.5 hour workshop on finding a story from your life experience with coaching and pointers on performance. Storytelling is a whole performance art unto itself.

In this workshop you will begin to learn how storytelling differs from theater, stand up and twisting balloon animals and how to mine your life experience to craft a story. Followed by an open mic opportunity to tell your story to an audience.

Limited to 16 and minimum of 6 to run. Taught by professional massmouth tellers who will feature with a ten minute story at the open mic

Brief Bio.

Doug Lipman, the foremost storytelling coach in the United States, is popular here and abroad as a performer, coach, author, and teacher. Doug's storytelling grew out of his work as a pre-school and music teacher in the 1970's. He has been teaching and coaching storytellers since 1979 and, in the last 10 years, worked extensively in the corporate sector. In addition to his workshops and classes on all aspects of storytelling, Doug has published numerous books and released instructional videos, audiocassettes, and multi-media courses such as the Storytelling Workshop in a Box™.


The cost is $20 for the workshop and buy something ($5 minimum) at the venue.

Stories in the Streets in an outreach literacy program that focuses on families in at-risk areas and fosters community engagement in storytelling by: 1) Creating opportunities for public storytelling wherever families gather — a farmer’s market, laundromat, or food line; and, 2) Offering storytelling workshops that raise family engagement in literacy, cultural awareness and community understanding.  The program is currently active in Lawrence, Brockton and Randolph.
