Event Description

One of NYC's finest storytellers tours Greater Boston Dec 9-12th with four featured appearances in Jamaica Plain, Somerville, Cambridge, and Lynn!

Michele Carlo has performed almost everywhere a person can tell stories, including the MOTH’s GrandSlams and Mainstage, and is thrilled to be invited back to Boston for another tour.  She is the author of the memoir "Fish Out Of Agua: My Life on Neither Side of the (Subway) Tracks" (Citadel 2010). Her writing also appears in "Mr. Beller’s Lost & Found: Stories From New York," and SMITH magazine's "Next Door Neighbor" among others. www.michelecarlo.com

 Founded in 1992 by Brother Blue and Ruth Hill this is the longest lasting storytelling series in New England.  The Story Space is a community dedicated to making the world a better place through storytelling.   Open Telling slots are 8 minutes long.   Michele Carlo is the feature performing a 40-minute set.

Started in 2008, "Speak UP" meets every Wednesday at the Walnut Street Coffee Café in Lynn, MA. It features poetry, storytelling, jive talking, ranting, listening and just hanging out.  Lottery for open mike happens at 7:30.  Michele is the featured teller for the evening and performs her 30-minute set at 8:30.

Stories in the Streets in an outreach literacy program that focuses on families in at-risk areas and fosters community engagement in storytelling by: 1) Creating opportunities for public storytelling wherever families gather — a farmer’s market, laundromat, or food line; and, 2) Offering storytelling workshops that raise family engagement in literacy, cultural awareness and community understanding.  The program is currently active in Lawrence, Brockton and Randolph.
