Event Description

My extreme pleasure to cohost the final Boston Slam for the season with Brian O'Donovan, the Celtic Sojourn host from 'gbh-fm.

Theme: Outrageous - or blarney & I have lived through a bit of it and look forward to hearing your story!

This month's co-host is Brian O'Donovan, from WGBH-FM by way of Ireland. You can hear Brian every every Saturday, 3-6 PM on Celtic Sojourn 89.7 WGBH. Brian was born and raised in Clonakilty in West Cork, Ireland, a town of about 3,000 people. He says " When the 60s hit our imaginations flew to America and England and rock and roll! I knew I would leave eventually and after graduating university, headed for England and eventually Boston, where I had intended to stay for 3 weeks. That was 29 years ago!"

Truly, the man has the gift for the gab and, combined with this month's theme, "outrageous" + Kennedy's flowing pints = good craic! You have a most outrageous true story. Bring it and join in the pre St. Patrick's Day fun!

Final event in a series of 6 Boston slams in 2009-2010.

What is a story slam ? Based on a poetry slam format and similar to American Idol, a story slam is a contest of wit, words and in this case, story by known and undiscovered talent. massmouth posts a theme on it's blogspot and story slammers sign up on the night to tell a 5-minute short story on the evening's theme . Ten lucky tellers will be picked at random, or participants can opt to listen, or join a judging team. There will be 3 teams of 3 judges and the 2 sets of 5 stories will begin with a short-short features by the co-hosts.
Listeners will be engaged in story improv games and other entertainment between the 5 minute features. And the audience will have full service for the pub menu and bar at http://www.kennedysmidtown.com/index.htm. Their menu is varied and the food is good!

This month's theme is "outrageous" You have lived it - now you can tell it.

Each of the ten 5 minute stories is judged on how well it is told, how well it is constructed and how well it honors the time limit and relates to the theme. The 3 highest-scoring tellers are awarded prizes and an opportunity to perform at the "the big mouthoff" April 20th at the Copley Library. Prizes will be awarded at each slam. The grand prize is a week in a town house in Tuscany.
$10 admission includes cover and one drink. $8 for students w/ID . $5 for students with a story.

Monthly winners are entered in a grand prize contest - "the big mouthoff" aka slam of all slammers on April 20, 2010
