Story Slam, Season IV in Fall 2012!
Theme: Rock&Roll
Blaow!! Ever find yourself on your favorite band’s tour bus, rollin’ with the best of ‘em? Ever moshed and lived to tell the tale? Ever wept like a baby at a show? Tell us the story!
Admission: $10 / $5 for members&students

Emcee: Scott Schultz has interviewed and photographed hundreds of bands for the Los Angeles based indie rock magazine, LA Record. Scott became involved with storytelling in December, 2011, winning his first slam and competing in the Big MouthOff at Coolidge Corner Theater. In March, he was named Massmouth’s Emerging Storyteller. Scott's stories have been heard on NYC-based Yarn AudioWorks and NPR’s O’Dark 30.
What is a Story Slam? A story slam is a contest of stories by known and undiscovered talent. Themes are posted on our events pages (www.massmouth.com) and story slammers sign up on the night to tell a 5-minute short story on the evening's theme. Ten names will be drawn at random from a box. A team of 5 volunteer judges - interested amateurs, storytellers, theater people and members of the audience who love stories - evaluate how well each story is told, how well it is constructed, how well the story explores, connects and/or reveals some truth about the theme and, how well it honors the time limit. The 2 highest-scoring tellers and a third selected by the audience are awarded prizes and an opportunity to progress to the "BigMouthOff" at the end of the slam season (Sept - April).
