Folk and Fairy Tale Slam - "Grimm & Twisted"

Listen to some samples here

Notes for "Grimm and Twisted" submissions:

Your story must be one of the 200 collected Brothers' Grimm tales, and must be twisted in some way... setting, gender-bender, ending is changed... use your imagination.

This project challenges tellers of traditional stories with the following guidelines in a monthly series of folk & fairy tale slams events on themes Slamming the Tradition - Six traditional storytelling events for adults.

  • tell a 7 minute story
  • must be fiction and from some tradition
  • not a literary work but the tellers own words
  • and tellers may use poetry, props, costumes, music BUT no notes

Featured teller Jackson Gillman: As the Stand-up Chameleon, Jackson often enlists one of his many altered egos for his storytelling. Such is the case as Jackson embodies his Yiddish grandmother to twist “Jeck mit de Binn Stuck” and other classics.

Jackson Gillman has thrice been Teller-in-Residence at the International Storytelling Center and has been featured at many regional and national festivals. He runs Springboards for Stories workshops annually in the inspiring setting of Rudyard Kipling's historic VT home.
