Event Description

Boston’s first SMUT SLAM had over 100 people sitting on the floor and craning their necks from the back to hear and applaud each other’s stories of sexual surprises. Now SMUT SLAM is back on May 11 with another fast-paced night of storytelling based on real life, real lust, real sex. The theme for this SMUT SLAM is “SPILL IT”, all about secrets we kept or try to keep in our sex lives."

SMUT SLAMMERS sign up on the night to tell a 5-minute piece of smut/sex/erotica, based on their real lives and ideally relating to the theme of "SPILL IT" (secrets and revelations), and a lucky eight to ten names will be drawn at random. There will be a team of 3 to 5 judges - interested amateurs, storytellers, theater people, writers, and anyone who loves sex stories. At intermission, slammers and audience alike have the opportunity to challenge Cameryn Moore, the Phone Whore, in a lightning-fast IRON SMUT ROUND, where participants receive 3 randomly chosen words or phrases and then must use those in two-minute smut fictional narratives created ON THE SPOT.

NOT A SMUT SLAMMER?
Don't worry. The audience is in for a good time at SMUT SLAM! Sit back and enjoy. All we ask is:
- No interrupting.
- No heckling.
- No necking.

PANEL OF CELEBRITY JUDGES INCLUDES:
- Susanne Boitano, the Phoenix’s Miss Adventure alt-lifestyle columnist
- Aliza Shapiro of Truth Serum
- Boston-based comedian Scotty Lombardo
and more TBA

*******

Each of the featured 5-minute smut stories is assessed on how well it is told; how well it is constructed and how well the story explores, connects and/or reveals some truth about the theme; and how well it honors the time limit. The IRON SMUT ROUND will be judged separately.

** (read about story slams at the massmouth website, http://www.massmouth.ning.com/. They are an awesome organization doing amazing work, and I have lifted my rules and format in large part from their approach, so you would do well to read up.)

THE RULES
5 minutes - 5 minutes means...5 minutes. You lose points if you use the entire 60-second grace period to wind up.

Real stories? -The audience and the judges will be expecting real-life adventures. No retelling of some Penthouse letter or an erotica story is permitted and if we discover that you have pirated someone's story, we will track you down, KICK YOUR ASS and smear your name everywhere as a smut-challenged plagiarist.

Presentation - Your SMUT presentation is important. You use voice, gesture and movement to the best of your ability in the service of your tale o' smut.

Theme - Your story, not just the title or "punch line", connects in any meaningful way to the theme. This is wide open and helps you focus at the same time

Practice - You should practice. 'Nuff said.

Funny, Sad, Genuine - Funny is good, poignant is fine, raunchy or graphic are totally appropriate, but all must be genuinely in service to the story. That is what makes yours a smutty tale worth listening to and sets it apart from rants, stand-up, phone sex, and what you tell your therapist or best friend.

Oh, a couple more things:

Good smut comes from all backgrounds, from people with all different body parts. Accordingly, SMUT SLAM is a very friendly and positive event... queer-friendly, trans-friendly, size-positive, etc. You get the picture.

Just because we're friendly doesn't mean we won't get pissed, subtract points, and/or plant the big boot in anyone's ass, performer or audience, who is being a bigot out loud.

Also, we are all about the kink and BDSM. But rape stories are another story, and will be automatically disqualified. Our judges know the difference, and so should you.
