Emcee:  Your host: Robin Maxfield works for the Speech Improvement Company as a coach and trainer.  Besides storytelling, she produces and hosts Boston's only all female stand up show- Comedy with Wings.

Special Guest:  Did you know that black cats are often the last to be adopted? Neither did Jennifer Stott when she adopted Isabel, a precocious black cat with bright green eyes. Inspired by this great little cat who could have been overlooked just because of the color of her fur, Jennifer co-founded Black Cat Rescue. Black Cat Rescue is an all-volunteer network of foster homes in Boston, dedicated to saving the lives of homeless black cats and kittens by providing quality foster care while actively seeking loving, permanent homes.

THE VENUE

Doyle's Café offers a mix of good food, good talk and good people. Nearest T: Green Street (Orange Line) and several bus lines. 3484 Washington Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130

What's a story slam?

Modeled after poetry slams, massmouth’s story slams invite storytellers—from experienced performers to first-timers—to share a real-life story in five minutes.  Storytellers sign up and 10 are chosen at random to tell their story on the slam's theme. Volunteer judges award prizes based on a story’s narrative arc, presentation and connection to the theme. Judges select first and second place winners and the audience votes for a third. Winners are invited back for the semi-finals in March, where they vie for a spot in the finals.

NOTE:  This year (2013), Story Slam Finals (also known as the Big Mouth Off) will take place on April 17th at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline!
