Event Description

Speak UP! Spoken Word Open Mic meets every Wednesday at the Walnut Street Coffee Cafe.

Sign up  starts at 7 PM with the actual talking kicking off at 7:30 PM.  The Featured Performer for the evening goes on at 8:30.  Folks are invited to share a poem they have written, one they love, tell a story, read a memoir, talk about your week, talk about what pisses you off, share who you love, cuss up a storm or blow kisses at the crowd- Speak UP! is a Free Speech Zone. Stories in the Streets in an outreach literacy program that focuses on families in at-risk areas and fosters community engagement in storytelling by: 1) Creating opportunities for public storytelling wherever families gather — a farmer’s market, laundromat, or food line; and, 2) Offering storytelling workshops that raise family engagement in literacy, cultural awareness and community understanding.  The program is currently active in Lawrence, Brockton and Randolph.
