I asked LANES member, Bambi Good if I could share an email she sent me after I missed Beowulf at Amazing Things last week. She send me this to post:
Sebastian Lockwood's performance of Beowulf at Amazing Things on Thursday, August 7, was beyond extraordinary: it would have been so were it not only the 5th or so time he had told it. He
used Seamus Heavey's translation and studied the text line by line with a Beowulf scholar in preparation. I never, ever, voluntarily go near anything gory or violent to look at, but this violence, because of the beauty of the word and the soul of the telling, had purpose and beauty. Sebastian is a true teller in service of the tale which was a part of him as breath is in the rest of us, one and the same and sustaining. I hope everyone will have a chance to hear it and live it with him some day.

Bambi, Thanks for posting this review. It was indeed a magical night. I will be bringing more out of towners to Amazing Things in the upcoming months. Sept 1. Lorraine Hartin-Gelardi. Oct. 1 Regi Carpenter. Both from upstate New York and both not seen in these parts. They will be in a different room in the Framingham Fire House. Will be interested to see how folks respond to the living room-like upstairs space. Cheers, Libby
