the living art of storytelling in Massachusetts
For thousands of years there has been
a magical collaboration between
harpists and storytellers. A Bard’s
Feast enchants audiences as it
breathes new life into this ancient art
form. Storyteller Norah Dooley and
harpist Susan Miron have been
telling each other stories for decades.
Their performances of Irish tales grew
out of their shared love of music and
improbable narrative.
A renowned storyteller, Norah
deftly makes Irish tales and legends
spring to life. Susan, an acclaimed
classical harpist, draws on the vast
repertoire of O'Carolon and others, to
weave authentic Irish music through
the tales. From the origins of
literature and music there has been a
magical collaboration between harp
and story.
Our concerts combine traditional
Irish melodies and tunes of 18th
century blind harper, Turlough
O’Carolan with legend, myth and
folktales from the vast store of Irish
folkloric tradition. Stories are timeless
and living things. Our nontraditional
versions of these tales are more
products of the storyteller’s seething
brain than staid scholarly research.
Leprechauns, the sidhe ( fairy people)
common folk, heroes and star crossed
lovers manifest in the glory of spoken
word, entrancing harp and enchanting
words.
We offer programs for listeners of all
ages and can vary the length and
theme to your event.
Turlough O'Carolan, including well
known tunes, Carolan's Concerto,
Carolan's Farewell to Music, Carolan's
Receipt and many others.
