performer of stories, musician, childrens books published and available at Amazon.com, music available at www.soundclick.com/cosmicmoxa,
COSMIC MOXA combines traditional sounds stemming from Spanish gypsy, Nordic, Eastern European and Middle Eastern influences with electronic beats and soundscapes of the modern age. Combination hip/modern/worldbeat/funk with violin, cello, and electronics. Cosmic Moxa is the dynamic duo of John Salonen maestro of the guitar , keys and killer fiddle, born in Finland and coming from a familial musical background, and Nancy Valois born in Leominster Ma. , awesome vocals and inspired keys. They formed COSMIC MOXA in 1970 and have since gone on to create 100+ Cds of original music, with more coming all the time. From Rock, to Jazz, Trance to Funk, Acoustic to such diverse and interesting instrumentation as the Japanese Koto and Irish Dulcimer COSMIC MOXA pleases the ear and the spirit with their original sound. They have made their home in Winchendon Springs, Ma for the past 25 years and entertain at fine New England Restaurants with their soothing smooth Jazz sound. They also entertain at many libraries throughout New England with educational children’s shows like: “Catch the World Beat” exploring world music with an array of instruments from koto, dulcimer, oud, and a variety of drums, for the kids to use, and “Extraordinary origins of everyday items” using humour, music, puppets and storytelling they educate the children to fun facts of everyday things like superstitions, shaking hands, snack, fairytales etc. “Jazz for everyone” is an all ages jazz show which traces jazz from early 1920s using jazz standards through modern times. John also teaches guitar from beginner levels to advanced. They have produced music for documentaries and are currently working on one that will be released soon , they are available for that as well as any musical need by e-mailing cosmicmoxa@net1plus.com . They are available for garden parties, cocktail hours, wedding ceremonies, restaurants, clubs ,concerts etc. and play any musical genre from classical to heavy metal. When asked “why the name”? and “Where did it come from”? They reply, back in 1970 we were reading a book on Kirillian Photography, (photographing the aura of living objects) and came across the word Moxa, which means healing with high frequency sound waves, and decided that the name fit their idea of spirit, music and positive life. Their music, songs and life reflect their devotion to always reach for the positive, spreading the affirmative message of love throughout their songs and music. COSMIC MOXA spends a lot of their time working on musical theory and the pursuit of musical excellence and it shows in the inspired and diverse sounds they create. Always current and on the cutting edge of technology . Whether working on musical scores for documentaries and movies, songs and music written and produced for Hollywood , Sunrise and Rainbow Records, sharing the stage with such greats as Luther Guitar Jr. Johnson . or producing classical piano as in the CD “Piano Moods” or the beautiful sounds of “Alternative Listening” CD or the cutting edge of “Euro Thick Beat” or the heavy rock sound of “Surrender Dorothy” they are always on the forefront of musical and technological sound ,staying one step ahead of the mainstream . In 2006 they were proud to have been nominated and to have won 3rd place in Worcester Magazines Best in Funk and Soul category.
