Learnin' Vernon
That’s a strange name.
Vernon L. Cox is the story teller Learnin’ Vernon Teller of legends, lore, and a whole lot more.
The quick Answer:
It is a stage name. Kind of, well he is not on a stage that often. He is usually in the audience connecting, interacting. He is always learning better ways to be who he can be, whether storytelling or just being who he is.
As story teller Learnin’ Vernon, he has entertained audiences from Presque Isle, Maine to Hollywood California.
Ever since he can remember Vernon has been telling stories.
Vernon spent the third Saturday of every month as a reader and performer for the Buck Memorial Library’s Story Hour in Bucksport Maine. As a parent raising his daughter Shanna in Orland he refined his tales at many a scout campfire, birthday party and during holiday events.
Librarians taught him to appreciate the audience as much as the author which you were sharing.
Scouts and being involved in his daughters life has taught him that the more you give to others the more you realize their gift to you which becomes a debt you could never repay.
Vernon learns every day to be a better storyteller from his audiences and his peers. He regularly attends workshops and open mics to further his craft.
He has been a military medic, cook, custodian, mental health worker, electrician, volunteer firefighter, E.M.T. and a lifetime member of Girl Scouts. It is through all of these memories that Vernon draws for his tales. He has learned that every day a new journey begins and a new experience unfolds.
That is why he shall always remain a Learnin’ Vernon!
Oh yea, Learnin’?
That’s a strange name, or some would think but it sounds cool, “Learnin Vernon.” Learning Vernon just is not as much fun so he dropped the g.

Willey Phinedit
Who is Willey Phinedit (pronounced Find-it)?
Willey Phinedit is a Storyteller, Maine Humorist, UnRegistered Guide and a Tall Taleologist with a few tales to tell. Filled with the Down East humor traditions of old, blending folk with original tales of fantasy as dry as your morning toast and as fresh as your next cup of coffee!
Willey is a Maine character, one who is sincere and honest as the day is long (like Alaska in the Wintah.) He has been known to stretch the truth just a little. When Willey arrives, he will arrive in his UnRegistered guide outfit and he will sound similar to the Maine stereotypical down east humorist.

Thank you so much both for coming out to Bull Feeney's and also for your kind note! I am so glad - and relieved! - that your cousins enjoyed the evening. It is certainly true that we need to do all we can to dispel the notion that storytelling is boring. Yow: Heaven forfend! My own mother, who has never heard me tell and sing, has more than once cautioned me against putting people to sleep. And I, a good daughter, simply thank her for her excellent advice and do my utmost to take it. (But I do smile to myself, thinking of the fun we have).
I hope to get back up to Portland before long and will look forwards to a chat, and also, I hope, the chance to hear some of your tales.
Thanks very much for your encouragement.
sending good wishes,
Kate
PS - Whenever I read your name, I think of that wonderful quote attributed to Michaelangelo at age 80: "I am still learning." Here's to that.
Andrea and I are having blast ! Vernon, why not start a Maine .ning? Why should we massholes have all the fun?
and
Can you "'splain me" about where to best post a discussion like the one on changing photos? I agree, it should be somewhere obvious. Thanks again,
Norah
