Event Description

Strawberry fields forever? Come hear the stories of growing up on the grounds of what was then the Framingham Women’s Reformatory from 1945-1955. Ellen Bell and friends reminisce about their free range childhoods among the barns, gardens, and fields of the reformatory. Their lives were intertwined with the women at the prison and the staff including Dr. Miriam Van Waters. Among her fascinating stories, Ellen will recount playing with Dr. Waters’ grandchildren at the “big house” or Superintendent’s house. This neighborhood holds a fascinating glimpse of this important piece of Framingham’s past.
