Event Description

The Riverway Storytelling Festival is now accepting submissions for the annual Riverway Showcase performance, which will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Sanford Memorial Library in Colonie, New York

The story submitted should be appropriate for a family performance.  Submissions should be in the form of a sheet indicating storyteller's name, mailing address, telephone, and email contact info, and a 7-10 minute story on CD with accompanying paper indicating which track is the desired story. (Submissions will not be returned.) Alternatively, stories can be submitted in mp3 format via email, with the accompanying info in the body of the email. 

Only one story can be submitted per storyteller.  Storytellers who performed in the 2011 Riverway Showcase are not eligible for submission in 2012. 

 Submissions can be sent to: Barry Marshall, PO Box 353, Philmont, NY 12565.  Emailed submissions can be sent to  Submissions must be received no later than March 1, 2012. 

 An anonymous multi-person committee will judge all submissions, and the top choices of the committee will be invited to perform the story in the Showcase Performance. Chosen Showcase performers will be announced no later than March 21, 2012. Showcase performers will receive free admission to 2012 Riverway festival events. 

 The Riverway Storytelling Festival is held each spring in the Capital District of New York State.  Sponsored by the Upper Hudson Library Association, the festival features performances and workshops by some of the finest storytellers from across the state, region, and the US.  The 2012 festival will be held from April 16-21, 2012.  Information about the festival can be found at

Stories in the Streets in an outreach literacy program that focuses on families in at-risk areas and fosters community engagement in storytelling by: 1) Creating opportunities for public storytelling wherever families gather — a farmer’s market, laundromat, or food line; and, 2) Offering storytelling workshops that raise family engagement in literacy, cultural awareness and community understanding.  The program is currently active in Lawrence, Brockton and Randolph.
