Event Description

Come one, come all to the Cambridge (MA) River Festival, noon to 6pm on Memorial Drive along the banks of the Charles River on June 4!
As it did last year, StoryStream Cambridge will be presenting an afternoon full of diverse stories and tellers at its tent near the Weeks Footbridge (near DeWolfe Street). 


Here's the schedule for the day:
12:00    5 minute folktales: Featuring Norah Dooley, Andrea Lovett and Doria Hughes


12:30    Judith Black: Tales to tickle the underside of your family's belly


1:00    Stories of growing up in Washington Elms and Newtowne Court, Cambridge’s first housing projects


2:00    Beyond the 4th Wall: Teen Improv Group telling stories of Cambridge


2:30    Judith Black:  Tales to tickle the underside of your family's belly


3:00    Story games for children with Suzette Abbott


3:15    YouthStream: Digital Stories created by Cambridge students


3:45    Memory Stories Game with Cambridge residents from all over the world (audience participation, too)   


4:30    Papermaking, bookbinding and publishing traditions in Cambridge

Grand Prize for South Shore Grand Slam Story Slam generously donated by Nicolette Heavey and Stories In The Streets (A Maine Get Away)

Stories in the Streets in an outreach literacy program that focuses on families in at-risk areas and fosters community engagement in storytelling by: 1) Creating opportunities for public storytelling wherever families gather — a farmer’s market, laundromat, or food line; and, 2) Offering storytelling workshops that raise family engagement in literacy, cultural awareness and community understanding.  The program is currently active in Lawrence, Brockton and Randolph.
