April 14th from 7-9PM at the Coolidge Corner Theater, Brookline MA

Semi-finals of massmouth’s Greater Boston Story slam series….

20 stories, 20 storytellers from all walks of life in a benefit performance for

StoriesLive®, the first ever high school scholarship storytelling project

Three times a month people crowded into rooms all over the city to hear ten tellers tell their true 5 minute story on the night’s  chosen theme.  From October to April, 20 massmouth story slams filled rooms at Kennedy’sMidtown, The Precinct in Somerville, the Enormous Room in Cambridge and Bella Luna in JP.  Audiences listened to stories about “secrets, love objects, ex-files, death and taxes and holidaze” and waited in anticipation while volunteer judges scored the tellers based the arc of their story, relation to the theme and the art of their performance, while keeping within the time limit.  Winners were chosen and many opt to go on to the finals. Among the tellers you will hear are a dairy farmer, a retired kindergarten teacher, a radio producer, a marketing manager and a full time theater student. Storytelling connects us all and massmouth audiences and participants encompass a wide diversity of race, age, class and ethnicity.

This has been an incredible season with more than half of each audience being introduced to story slams and storytelling. Our high tech society is ripe for some low tech action – and the essentially human experience of storytelling is fitting the bill.

On Thursday, April 14th, the 2nd place and audience choice winners will each tell their story -  live, no notes, props, songs or poems for the massmouth semi-final event at the Coolidge Corner Cinema in Brookline, MA at 7:00 PM.
