Event Description

Just in time for Halloween mischief, Taylor House Bed and Breakfast in Jamaica Plain presents Musica Nuova, an innovative early music ensemble, and Doria Hughes, storyteller extraordinaire! In a program of dramatic music drawn from 17th Century English theatre and folk tradition, Musica Nuova and Doria will recount - through music and story - the imaginary legend of Bess of Bedlam, narrating in vivid detail her progress from milkmaid to madwoman. The program will include mad songs, drinking songs, and bawdy rhymes by Purcell, Eccles, and their rarely-performed contemporaries.
